Located in Munich, the BMW Driving Simulation Centre is one of the most advanced simulation facilities in the world. Designed not for marketing but for engineering, it allows BMW’s designers, safety experts, and engineers to test driver behavior and vehicle systems in highly realistic conditions — accurate to the millisecond and meter. At the heart of its visual system is nDisplay, a real-time rendering framework powered by Unreal Engine and customized by Pixela Labs in collaboration with Epic Games.

Scope of work

The simulation center uses a complex multi-projection system that requires precise synchronization, geometric correction, and latency minimization. Pixela Labs was brought in to adapt nDisplay for this demanding environment — enabling synchronized 120Hz rendering across multiple channels.
The team restructured assets, optimized shaders and materials, reduced input-to-output delay, and implemented custom LOD, foliage, and visibility systems to meet BMW's performance and accuracy standards.
In addition to system-level integration, Pixela Labs supported asset validation and scene optimization for BMW and its partners — ensuring the entire production pipeline aligned with the technical demands of the simulator.
